Iowa Prevention of Disabilities Policy Council

The Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) provided technical assistance to the Iowa Prevention of Disabilities Policy Council since it was created in 1991. The Policy Council was an independent state body that was responsible for facilitating the development of collaborative initiatives, analyzing policy and advising the Governor and Iowa General Assembly about state priorities for the prevention of primary and secondary disabilities. To accomplish its charge, the Council worked with representatives of seven state agencies, the states’ regents’ institutions, and the private and volunteer sectors.

CDD provided technical assistance to the Council in analyzing policy, coordinating the development of interagency state initiatives, and drafting policy agendas. CDD also provided the Council with the administrative support it needed to operate as an independent unit within state government.
